Back Care & Core Stability

The body's core muscles form the basis for all movement and stabilise the spine, and pelvis and shoulders.

However these core muscles are often neglected through repetitive postures such as sitting at a desk, driving and ineffective workouts. Subsequently the core muscles weaken and  postural imbalances occur causing discomfort, aching and sometimes pain.

The biggest benefit of core training is to develop functional fitness - that is, fitness that is essential to be able to perform your daily living tasks, job or regular activities without the build up of long term problems.

The main concepts of core stability involve using many muscles in balanced and co-ordinated movement rather than isolating a specific joint (as in most weight machines).

These classes were initially set up in Horsham in order to provide a safe, effective exercise environment for the ongoing treatment of chronic postural problems or injury.

Since starting in 2003 the class has helped many patients manage and maintain a pain free posture and has grown into a popular class for people, with or without pain.

The classes are directed under the guidance of Sports Therapist and corrective Exercise Specialist, Sarah Dover McCarthy, and uttilise the use of stability balls, exercise bands and weights to gain optimum stability, strength, tone and flexibility.

Whether you are a complete beginner suffering from back pain, or a novice exerciser looking for a challenge.  The classes are all non aerobic and low impact, and can be performed at your own level,   but rest assured they will test you!

It's like having a one to one session with your therapist, but with the fun and motivation of exercising in a class environment.
