Home Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is the treatment of disease or injury by natural and physical means. On arriving at the practice, the patient will first be assessed by the physiotherapist. This means that the patient is asked questions regarding themselves, the problem, the nature, site, pattern and intensity of pain. This is in order for the physio to establish the type of problem and how it relates to that particular patient. For example, are you an Olympic 100 metre sprinter or an Office Worker - both will have very different performance requirements from their body and both must be addressed relevantly to restore full pain free function to that patient.

By this time the physio will already have a fairly good idea of what the problem is and will examine the patient and look at movement (both quality and range), swelling, muscles, skin and posture. The physio will then test the relevant structures for power, length, stability and any discomfort.

Finally, the physio will palpate the suspected tissues to feel area of tenderness, swelling, crepitus and tone.

Once a diagnosis has been established, the physio will formulate a plan of treatment. This may involve mobilising the joint (small controlled gentle movements in particular directions), massage, stretches, exercises or electrotherapy.

In all cases, we believe that it is your body and that you have a right (and responsibility) to be included in your treatment programme. You should therefore have the assessment findings and treatment protocol explained and discussed with you. You should feel free to ask questions at any time.

This service is available to those that are unable to attend the practice due to their current incapacity.
