I qualified as a Physiotherapist from the University of Brighton in 2001 and completed my Junior rotations in Surrey County Hospital, Guildford. After a year out travelling the world I worked as a temporary Senior Physiotherapist in various roles within the NHS, including community, orthopaedics and musculoskeletal outpatients.
I then completed a postgraduate Master’s degree in Veterinary Physiotherapy at The Royal Veterinary College, London in 2007, taking me in a slightly different direction, to apply my physiotherapy skills to animal patients.
Since Sept 2008 when I was delighted to join the team at Cranfold Physical Therapy Centre I have worked on a part time basis treating 2 legged patients and I have continued to treat 4 legged patients on a self-employed basis as well. Assessing and treating animals has greatly enhanced my palpation (feeling) skills which really benefits my ‘people’ patients. I enjoy treating sports injuries and most musculoskeletal problems, helping my patients feel better and return to normal function.
I have also completed Pilates courses with APPI and now take regular Clinical Classes in Cranleigh.
I am a very keen snowboarder and have been lucky enough to live and work 7 winter seasons in the French mountains, mainly based as a Physiotherapist and massage therapist in the resort of Les Deux Alpes. Although I am not returning for any further seasons, I still have a special interest in treating snow sport injuries both acutely off the snow where I have a lot of experience, and more chronically once people have returned home.
I have a keen interest in the outdoors and have a very active life, I enjoy kite surfing on the south coast and the occasional hockey tournament, but my main sporting passion is horse riding. I love to hack and compete my own horses as well as bring on younger horses at our family yard in the Surrey Hills. I therefore have an added interest in treating horse riders and potentially their horses locally too.
“Thank you to Amy Barton from Cranfold Physio Horsham for fixing my ankle & getting me back up and running for my marathon. After several treatments it’s good as new. I would highly recommend the professional and friendly service you get from them.” Mr E, Horsham
